ELON CHRON: The Daily Chronicle of Elon Musk’s Companies

“I want to know what is real, even if the answer is total obliteration of my consciousness…” – Elon Musk (@elonmusk)

TESLA ($346.40, -1.27%):

– New images of the Next Gen Optimus were released and wow! Looks like those hands and arms really are looking more human. Love the gold Cybercab finish, and… wait… *gasp* 👽

– We also go to see the blacked out Optimus at the Tesla Diner. Previously hinted with the action figure.

– Per Elon this Saturday, “Just had a great design review today with the Tesla AI5 chip design team! This is going to be an epic chip. And AI6 to follow has a shot at being the best by AI chip by far. Switching from doing 2 chip architectures to 1 means all our silicon talent is focused on making 1 incredible chip… Milliseconds matter… I think AI5 will probably be the best inference chip of any kind for models below ~250B params. By far lowest cost silicon and best performance/Watt. AI6 will take that much further.”

– James Middleton, Tesla’s General Manager for Enterprise Sales in Australia and New Zealand, announced that the Tesla for Business team attended the SIXT Australia National Conference on the Gold Coast, Australia, where the Tesla ecosystem—including the Model 3, Model Y, Powerwall 3.0, and Supercharger V4—was showcased to the corporate team and SIXT franchisees, highlighting Tesla’s turnkey solutions for commercial fleet operators and business owners.

– For August, the China Automobile Association reported that the Model Y was the best-selling car, with 58,888 units sold. Tesla China delivered 57,152 vehicles to retail customers, and exported 26,040 units.

– Tesla has partnered with real estate development company Aldar (@aldar) to build Abu Dhabi’s first Tesla Experience Centre on Yas Island. It will include a showroom, service center, and delivery center. The render below was posted by Aldar.

– Tesla Super Charging Director Max de Zegher (@MdeZegher) posted that Tesla now sells fully managed Superchargers to businesses with an out-of-the-box charging solution without customizations. Just like their vehicles, the chargers are supported by continuous software updates. “Our goal is to accelerate charging ubiquity by making the best charging tech available for any business. To accelerate charging affordability through more supply & competition. To accelerate installation cost efficiency, through more installers and our economies of scale.”

– On Episode 118 of the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) podcast, Tesla Semi Director Dan Priestley (@danWpriestley), discusses the Semi’s early development, its on-highway market strategy, key lessons learned, and current progress. He highlights his enthusiasm for collaborating with fleets, the challenges fleets face in adopting new technology, and his belief that fleets will value the longevity and potential of electric vehicles in the future. Per Dan, “We have taken the approach that we’ve brought over from the passenger car side, which is, we want to challenge the specs, we want to try to design a great, simple product that serves the vast majority of needs.”

– Cybertruck’s lead engineer, Wes Morrill (@wmorrill3), has confirmed that wireless charging is not coming for Cybertruck. This is due to physics and efficiency challenges from the vehicle’s high ground clearance creating a large air gap that reduces charging and slows the process. H/T @NotATeslaApp.

NEURALINK:

– Per Neuralink Neuroscientist Michael Anthony Brito (@MBritoNeuro), “People continue to underestimate Neuralink, but in the less than 3 years I’ve been a part of the company, I’ve seen us go from pre-IDE to multiple EFS trials. Our pace will be limited only by the laws of physics. We haven’t even come close to realizing our true potential.”

– According to Neuralink, their implant enables immediate visibility into real-time neural activity. This video captures the gradual surge in brain signals as one of their recent human participants awakens following the procedure.

Per Neuralink co-founder DJ Seo (@djseo), “This is a spike raster plot, where each row represents neural activity of a single channel over time. There are over 1,000 rows, a channel count of the N1 implant. Each white pixel represents a spike. You can tell the precise time when our participant wakes up.”

– Neuralink patient No.8, Nick Wray (@Telepath_8), gave us an update and plans to more every week on Sunday. He and his girlfriend Lexi attended a 30-day post-op checkup at the University of Miami Health System (@UMiamiHealth), where he demonstrated his BCI capabilities to neurosurgeons from the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis (@BuonicontiFund). He also met up with fellow NPs Derick and Audrey (@NeuraNova9). Nick’s family reassembled his desktop setup after years, allowing him to enjoy expanded screen space and he’s now mixing unreleased tracks from his band So Long, Stargazer and collaborating with Grok on a dance pop song.

■ STARLINK:

– A MAXAR satellite conducting a routine Earth observation captured this shot of a SpaceX Starlink satellite. The rainbow effect you see is called a pan-sharpening spectral artifact. Essentially, their imaging system was merging high-resolution black & white data with color data while the Starlink zipped past at orbital velocity. Pic posted by Susanne Hake, SVP and General Manager, USG, Maxar Intelligence.

– SpaceX acquired 50 MHz of S-band spectrum and global MSS licenses from EchoStar to deploy its next-generation Direct to Cell constellation, This will enable broadband service to unmodified LTE phones worldwide. With over 600 Direct to Cell satellites currently operational at 360 km altitude, integrated with Starlink’s 8,000+ satellite laser mesh, it provides 4G coverage to over six million users across five continents, supporting messaging, video calls, and apps.

Per Gwynne Shotwell (@Gwynne_Shotwell), “We are so pleased to be doing this transaction with EchoStar and working with operators across the globe to advance our mission to end mobile dead zones everywhere on Earth!

Per SpaceX VP of Starlink Engineering, Michael Nicolls (@michaelnicollsx), “Could not be more excited for the future of Starlink direct to cell!

– Japan is equipping 66 large Coast Guard patrol vessels with Starlink starting this year and ending with 16 more in 2026. They are also installing it on all four hydrographic survey ships. The 4.26 billion yen ($29 million) investment includes encryption upgrades and cyber defenses for secure communications amid tensions near the Chinese disputed Senkaku Islands.

– The Salvation Army Marion Corps has launched its first emergency disaster response vehicle (EDRV) equipped with Starlink and funded by a Lilly Endowment grant through Territorial Headquarters. The truck provides hot meals, coffee, hydration, supplies, emotional/spiritual care, and connectivity in communication in down areas during disasters.

– Timothy Livingston of Baker Aviation announced that the company’s final flight using the outdated internet on its 21-aircraft Citation X fleet occurred yesterday, marking the end of an era with unreliable connectivity. Effective today, all 21 Citation X aircraft have been fully equipped with Starlink Aviation. “Your passengers have probably already experienced it at some point on our fleet but now its guaranteed on every Citation X flight you book with us.”
