ELON CHRON: The Daily Chronicle of Elon Musk’s Companies

“Definitely need to enhance security…” – Elon Musk (@elonmusk)

TESLA ($368.80, +6.04%):

– Tesla China VP Grace Tao announced that Tesla employees and family members nationwide will receive Mid-Autumn Festival gifts, including a custom mooncake gift box featuring comics with the “ha ha, yes!” hedgehog and Optimus celebrating the holiday. Additional gifts are available for production line employees and interns. Non-employees can participate by commenting or reposting her Weibo post. 10 random draws will win mooncake gift boxes at midnight on September 19th.

– The Nevada DMV approved Tesla’s application for a Testing Registry certification, allowing the company to test Robotaxi on public roads. The DMV Office of Business Licensing team issued autonomous plates and the registry certificate to Tesla on the same day. To offer public robotaxi rides in Nevada without a driver, Tesla must complete the “Self-Certification for Operations” step, similar to its current service in Austin, Texas. H/T Sawyer Merritt (@SawyerMerritt).

– Kodiak Fields, RoadOne IntermodaLogistics’ National Vice President of Sales, was at the company’s Oakland facility with their Tesla Semi. The facility utilizes onsite solar-powered chargers and has transitioned to electric forklifts and yard hostlers. “We’re thrilled to roll out the Tesla Semi, leveling up our commitment to sustainability. Our chargers run on onsite solar, leading the charge in eco-friendly warehousing and transportation.”

– Glen Agyei, Tesla Account and Ride & Drive Manager in the UK, took a Model Y Long Range, equipped with 19-inch wheels for improved efficiency, on a journey from Longbridge to Glasgow on a single charge; approximately 400-miles! “Another week, another long journey experience of a Tesla vehicle in hopes of extracting maximum range. Range…a topic many are uncertain about. I could care less personally as there are chargers almost everywhere, but someone has to do it, right?

– Tesla VP of Vehicle Engineering, Lars Moravy (@larsmoravy), met with Federal Minister for Transport and Member of the German Bundestag, Patrick Schnieder (@PSchnieder), at Tesla Automation GmbH in Prüm, Germany. This is Tesla’s facility specializing in advanced machine solutions for producing microprocessors, memory chips, lithium-ion battery cells, airbag sensors, and power steering control units for the global Gigafactories.

– Inside the Tesla Training facility in Virginia by Milan Aleksic, Tesla Certified Automotive Technician at West Delray Collision Center. “It offers an exceptional learning experience. I want to express my gratitude to my Tesla trainers, who are knowledgeable about these cars and are more than willing to share their expertise. I highly recommend this class to anyone interested in learning more about these cars.”

– At the RE+ event, the Tesla booth, designed and built by the MC² team, attracted a large crowd. According to Amanda Beauregard, Strategic Sales Executive at MC², the crowds made it difficult to capture clear photos.

– Today, U.S. District Court Judge George H. Wu in Los Angeles further reduced Alcon Entertainment LLC’s lawsuit against Tesla and Elon by dismissing claims of false endorsement under the Lanham Act and vicarious copyright infringement against both, as well as most claims against Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. This adopts his tentative ruling after a hearing. This is the lawsuit Alcon filed because Tesla and Elon used an AI-generated image that looked similar to “Blade Runner 2049” for the “We, Robot” event.

THE BORING COMPANY:

– The latest Music City LOOP update by Seth (@Drone615net). No changes to the pit, but surface work continues and rebar is staged. Follow and support Seth’s work. Without him we would be relying on MSM only.

– Last night around 10 p.m., a TBC employee working on the Vegas LOOP at the 3987 Paradise Rd site was involved in an accident. The injury was described by the Clark County Fire Department as a crushing injury in an industrial/machinery accident. The Fire Dept. assessed the worker’s injuries inside the tunnel and used a stokes basket and an on-site crane to transport him to the surface before he was taken to Sunrise Hospital. The employee is in stable condition. TBC and Nevada are both investigating the incident and have temporarily halted tunnel boring operations at the site.

NEURALINK:

– Per NP1 Noland Arbaugh (@ModdedQuad), “Neuralink is starting to anticipate what I’m thinking and what I’m going to do next.” Noland was interviewed by Jessica Mathews at the Fortune Brainstorm Tech event. Noland described the experience as profoundly personal, enhancing his reflection on future interactions between people and technology.

■ STARLINK:

– Starlink is now available in Liechtenstein, the 150th country, territory, and/or market.

– SpaceX urged the FCC to include Starlink in its annual report, arguing the exclusion of satellites misguides policy. The FCC’s inquiry considers dropping the 1,000/500 Mbps goal and seeks input on satellite inclusion, while ACA Connects opposes it, citing capacity limits.

– Today, the Lebanese Information Minister Paul Morcos announced a license for SpaceX to deliver Starlink services nationwide. The decision came after months of discussions, including a June presentation by Starlink executive Sam Turner to President Joseph Aoun.

– Starlink is providing a 44% discount on its Roam plans for new subscribers in Canada, reducing the monthly fee from $70 to $39 for the first six months. Use my referral HERE for a free month of service!

– Starlink is also offering a six-month promotional discount of about 40% on its Roam plan for new customers in France, Germany, and Spain, reducing the 50GB tier from €40 to €24 per month and the Unlimited data tier from €89) to €50 per month. Use my referral HERE for a free month of service!

■ X:

– A post by X’s new Head of Product Nikita Bier (@nikitabier):

“> My reach has declined. Fix it!

Reviewing their posts: the worst Linkedin/AI/threadboy spam I’ve seen in my life

> Thanks for the feedback but algorithm is working as expected 👍”

Not the way I would expect an executive at X to react to an obvious and ongoing issue with the algorithm. If low value 10 second attention deficit videos are what X wants to push, then I guess he is correct.

■ xAI:

– From what I have heard, xAI has narrowed its search for a location in Seattle to the Eastside of town. I do not know the size of the location they are needing.

– The Federal Trade Commission announced an investigation into Alphabet, Character Technologies, Instagram, Meta, OpenAI, Snap, and xAI, focusing on how these companies measure, test, and monitor the potential negative impacts of their AI chatbots on children and teens, particularly when the chatbots act as companions. The probe examines the companies’ efforts to limit usage and inform users and parents about associated risks potentially leading children and teens to trust and form relationships with them.
