■ xAI:

– Today, xAI held a ground-breaking ceremony for its $80 million Colossus Water Recycling Plant in southwest Memphis, Tennessee. xAI’s Colossus Lead, Brent Mayo (@BrentM_SpaceX) spoke on how xAI is embracing the local community and driving involvement to help improve the schools, havens, and businesses, and this facility is another part of that commitment. The ceremony included the Greater Memphis Chamber and their President & CEO Ted Townsend (@TedTownsend901), Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) CEO Don Moul and Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) CEO Doug McGowen (@DougMcGowen).

The Water Recycling facility will be equipped with the world’s largest ceramic membrane bioreactor wastewater recycling system and process up to 13 million gallons of wastewater daily to cool the Colossus supercomputer and two nearby industries, eliminating reliance on the Memphis Aquifer. The project follows the Memphis City Council’s March 2025 approval to sell approximately 13 acres of city land to xAI for the facility’s construction. Great job, Brent and the whole xAI team! Let the work begin!

– The Streak feature for Grok Companions will unlock a new outfit after a 7 day streak. “Speak every day to make your connection better and earn special rewards.” Still iOS only.

– University of Memphis researchers Chunrong Jia, Abu Mohammed Naser Titu, and Namuun Batbaatar published a study in The Conversation, finding that xAI’s natural gas turbines in Memphis, approved for permanent installation last July, minimally increased local air pollution. Their model showed a 1% rise in fine particulate matter and no significant increase in sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, or nitrogen dioxide, all remaining below national standards. Satellite data and independent lab results supported these findings, contradicting Memphis Community Against Pollution (MCAP) claims of a 3% nitrogen dioxide increase and up to 2,000 tons of annual nitrogen oxides emissions from xAI.
