■ THE BORING COMPANY:
– Per Elon, “So much boring ahead!“
– Prufrock-1 emerged after completing a 2.26-mile Vegas Loop tunnel connecting property near Harry Reid International Airport in the south to the Westgate Resort in the north. There are eight new stations planned along this route including Virgin Hotels and Hughes Center. Prufrock-1 was fully extracted from the ground and loaded onto the transport trailer “The Monster” for maintenance and then shipment to its next site. TBC is targeting a November relaunch to begin its seventh tunnel.
– TBC posted a new video on Prufrock-4. This is their most advanced TBM, designed for speed, intelligence, and safety. They noted that Prufrock-5, 6, and 7 are still under construction at the Bastrop, Texas, HQ.
– Tim Toerber, President of the Americas at Assaia AI, visited TBC HQ for the Vegas LOOP. “It was amazing to see first hand what The Boring Company has built and demonstrates the potential for tunnels to support remote terminals at airports and offer alternatives to desperately needed relief on arrivals drives.”
■ NEURALINK:
– Audrey Crews (@NeuraNova9) shared a video of her brain waves while thinking about moving her thumb up and down. She describes observing distinct patterns in her brain’s electrical signals while she thinks about moving different fingers or body parts. “To think I’d be looking at this and have the opportunity to share my story with so many people. I’m changing my life and so many more to come.”
– Neuralink co-founder, DJ Seo (@djseo), lectured at the Korea Education Foundation in Seoul and spoke with Jung Jae-seung, professor in the Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), and the students. Of note, He said the following on the Speech device, “Starting next month, we will launch a new clinical trial for patients with speech impairment who cannot speak… We will capture brain signals and synthesize them directly into sound to enable conversation without a keyboard.” And on Blindsight, he said, “It is a technology that stimulates the brain’s visual cortex according to information from camera-captured scenes to let people with visual impairments imagine images… We are developing it with the goal of clinical trials next year.”
■ STARLINK:
– Starlink’s Community Gateway on Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas cruise ship delivers 10 Gbps symmetrical throughput!
– The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a draft Fixed Satellite Services (FSS) license framework, simplifying entry for satellite operators like Starlink. This requires only one license at US $500,000, down from 15 previous licenses costing US $640,000. The 15-year non-exclusive license covers Fixed Earth Stations, Gateway Earth Stations, and VSAT for broadband, backhaul, intranet, and bandwidth services. Operators must register with the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (PSARB) first, launch services within 18 months, establish at least one Gateway Earth Station in Pakistan, and comply with local data laws keeping user data domestic.
– Starlink experienced a brief global outage today lasting approximately 30 minutes. SpaceX acknowledged the issue in a now-deleted post, stating their team was investigating. The outage impacted users worldwide.
■ 𝕏:
– Per Elon, “While at times the discussion on 𝕏 can become negative, it’s still good that there is a discussion happening. 𝕏 is the global town square.”
– In Post Activity, you will soon be able to sort quote post by Top and Recent. H/T P4mui (@P4mui).
– X is testing the ability to make Premium Exclusive posts. In other words, only for verified users. H/T @blankspeaker.
■ xAI:
– Amy Soller, formerly Nvidia and DARPA, has joined xAI as Mission Manager for the Intelligence Community. She will focus on integrating AI into defense and intelligence sectors to support U.S. Government national security efforts. She has 30 years in AI at the technology-public service intersection, she aims to collaborate with xAI and SpaceX teams to advance defense and intelligence vision.
– xAI laid off approximately 500 data annotators or “generalist AI tutors” who handled tasks like ranking answers, labeling data, and cleaning training sets for Grok. The company is shifting focus to “specialist AI tutors” in fields such as math, coding, finance, medicine, and safety, planning to increase this team by tenfold. These specialists will create and evaluate complex tasks, stress-test the model, and enhance quality in specific domains. This move prioritizes automating routine tasks to allow focus on higher-level problems, though it involves higher costs due to specialists’ higher pay. Affected employees were evaluated for specialist roles through tests. Per xAI, “Specialist AI tutors at xAI are adding huge value. We will immediately surge our Specialist AI tutor team by 10x! We are hiring across domains like STEM, finance, medicine, safety, and many more.“
– On Saturday, Grok 4 Fast launched GrokSuper users. This is by far xAI’s most powerful, fastest thinking highest intelligence model available.
– Grok Web will soon have the ability to read responses aloud. H/T @blankspeaker.
– Kapehe S (@kapehe_ok), Head of Developer Community at Vercel, posted these images from the xAI – Vercel hackathon last Thursday.
– Per xAI’s Colossus Lead, Andree Jacobson (@nmswede), “Optimizing server infrastructure to fit the requirements of applications, network, power, cooling, available rack space and current core / storage density is incredibly important for the xAI infra.”
■ ELON NEWS:
– Pics by Tommy Robinson (@TRobinsonNewEra) at the UK protest this weekend.
– Per Elon, “It’s true. I offered financial support to get his message out, if needed, but he respectfully declined.”
